Reflex Foam Vs Memory Foam
Reflex Foam
A reflex foam mattress is a mattress made of polyurethane foam. This is a medium-firm high-density responsive foam that provides support and firmness. Reflex foam is made up of tiny holes that adapt to your body shape but bounce back against you at the same time. Often found in orthopaedic mattresses, reflex foam can offer a firmer feel and provide good spinal alignment. Reflex foam is very flexible and regains its original shape very quickly, it shares the same ‘spring back into shape’ characteristic of memory foam (hence the ‘reflex’) it is important to distinguish the differences between the two materials.
The main difference in feel you'll find with a reflex foam mattress is that you don't experience that 'sinking' like you do with memory foam. However, it still has that bounce back quality.
Reflex foam mattresses are durable and resilient. However, after many years of use, reflex foam may lose some of its strength to push back against your body. This means your reflex foam mattress may not offer the comfort and support you require and should be replaced.
Benefits of a reflex foam mattress:
- Is naturally hypoallergenic
- Is relatively cheap in price
- Is durable
- Enhances firmness and minimises settlement
- Offers healthy weight distribution
- Promotes excellent spinal alignment
- Dust mite resistant
- Will not retain body heat, offering you a cooler night’s sleep.
Memory Foam
Memory foam was first designed in the 1960s for NASA plane seats. The average memory foam mattress has millions of tiny holes, and air escapes from these as the foam moulds around the body. This action is activated by pressure and body heat and results in a foam mattress that offers total independent support without pressure points. Memory foam is hypoallergenic and dust mite resistant, creating a healthier sleeping environment.
Benefits of a memory mattress:
- Temperature sensitive material that reacts to body heat
- Helps to keep your spine aligned
- Relieves pressure on joints
- No need to turn
- Hypoallergenic and dust mite resistant
